Hitting the links: WWFC launches golf tourney
The Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre (WWFC) is hitting the links with its first annual golf tournament. The event, to be held at Rebel Creek Golf Club Sept. 21 in Petersburg, Ont., serves as a fundraiser for student pilot scholarship to assist with the financial side of training. Training to become a pilot is costly and many aviation students are not eligible for OSAP or other financial support.

“One of the biggest stumbling blocks with training is the cost,” Bob Connors, WWFC general manager, noted. “We want to help, so WWFC has established a student pilot scholarship fund to help students achieve their aviation goals.”
The golf tournament is open to men and women in the Region of Waterloo and surrounding areas, including the GTA. Avid golfers and beginners alike, as well as those who have an interest in the aviation industry are welcome. The tournament is not meant to be competitive; it’s a fun day out in support of student pilots.

Special events during the day include a 50/50 helicopter ball drop, donated by Great Lakes Helicopter, as well as putting contest, hole-in-one and longest drive. A silent auction with more than 35 items will also be featured.
Registration is $160/golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and dinner. Tickets are also available for dinner for those who are not interested in golfing, but want to come out to support the cause. Cost is $50/person for the dinner, which will also give guests access to participate in the 50/50 ball drop and silent auction. Registration will close September 10.
